REPORTS BY SOMALIA’S CENTRAL RANGELANDS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (CRDP)

This post continues the provision of free downloads of hard-to-obtain documents on the rangelands of Somalia.

The multi-donor Central Rangelands Development Project, the objectives of which were to improve rangeland and livestock production of Somalia’s central rangelands, ran from 1980 until 1991 when a country-wide breakdown of security brought it to a halt. It comprised three main programs: (a) Range Development, which carried out rangeland surveys and ecological studies supporting development of management plans for local pastoralist range and livestock associations; (b) Non-Formal Training, which surveyed the attitudes, practices, and needs of pastoral communities, carried out extension activities, and developed simple educational materials; and (c) Formal Training which developed a B.Sc program in Range Management at the Somali National University. (The results of research studies by students of this program are available in the Somali Journal of Range Science https://storiesofeastafrica.com/2024/06/01/digital-copies-of-publications-on-the-rangelands-of-somalia/.)

The reports below reflect activities by the CRDP’s Range Development Program.
